Service Area · Catawba County
Catawba Valley furniture, fiber-optic, and I-40 industrial commercial sitework on a core-radius basis.
Overview
Hickory is the economic anchor of the Catawba Valley, historically driven by furniture and textile manufacturing and now increasingly by fiber-optic cable and advanced-manufacturing operations. The city sits directly on I-40 at the edge of the Blue Ridge foothills, which positions it for both industrial and regional commercial work. HD Grading works Hickory on a core-radius basis given the 80-minute drive.
Close enough to be part of our regular service area, far enough that it requires a half-day commitment for on-site work. Catawba County is a real market and we bid it seriously.
On the Ground in Hickory
Hickory's commercial identity blends industrial legacy with ongoing reinvention. The furniture and fiber-optic industries anchor manufacturing employment, with plants concentrated along Highway 70, I-40, and Clairmont Road. The downtown Hickory Crawdads stadium area and the Union Square district have seen mixed-use reinvestment, adding restaurant and residential-loft inventory. Commercial corridors along Lenoir-Rhyne Boulevard (where the college sits), US-321, and Springs Road carry retail and service commercial. Lenoir-Rhyne University generates steady institutional and student-adjacent work. Residential growth continues in the Mountain View and St. Stephens areas. Foothills topography brings gently rolling terrain, less severe than true mountain grading but more varied than Piedmont flatland. Catawba County stormwater rules govern permitting. Proximity to the Catawba River and Lake Hickory adds watershed considerations on sites with direct drainage.

Why HD Grading
Hickory is close enough that we run projects here on the same crew rotation as Statesville and Mooresville. The drive is manageable, the county is a regular stop for our equipment moves, and Catawba County is a market we understand. Hickory GCs get the same scheduling discipline and crew quality we bring to the Charlotte metro.
Single point of accountability
One crew, one PM, one phone number. From clearing to final striping, HD Grading self-performs the entire sitework scope.
